Student Advisory Committee Information
Thank you for your interest in joining the Active Minds Student Advisory Committee! The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) is a small group of students from across the United States and Canada who show extraordinary leadership and dedication to the mission of Active Minds. The committee is an advisory body to the national office that brings the student perspective to organizational decision-making.

Active Minds mobilizes youth and young adults to lead a transformative movement in mental health, forever changing how it is valued and prioritized in society. By equipping, connecting, and amplifying the collective and diverse voices of youth and young adults, we are building a movement of lasting champions who are improving mental health norms for all.

Compensation: All SAC members will be receiving a $1,000 stipend ( $500 each term)  to compensate for their time, hard work, and dedication to their role.

Responsibilities of the SAC include: 
  • Chapter Engagement & Network Support
    • Participating in two virtual meetings and events throughout the academic year, one meeting for our Orientation and onboarding. 
    • Brainstorming with students regarding chapter fundraising, events, advocacy work, etc.
    • Attending and leading peer to peer support meetings for chapters who need additional support or ideas during their chapter work
    • Hold general interest meetings with individuals interested in starting a chapter
    • Attending quarterly and ad hoc zoom calls with all SAC members and the national office. 
    • Actively participating in Active Minds programming, campaigns, and fundraising.
    • Helping advertise new programs, campaigns, and initiatives of Active Minds via personal and chapter social media networks
    • Assisting Active Minds National Staff with collaborative projects and interviews with large-scale partner non-profit and corporate organizations
  • Active Minds Communications & Storytelling
    • Write at least one blog post for the Active Minds Blog during your term as an individual post.
    • Actively engaging in the Active Minds Student Network Slack Community in the #sac channel and public channels at least once a month.
    • Sharing your story, as you feel comfortable doing so, with media outlets, donors/supporters, the Active Minds website or blog, and/or other mediums and channels on behalf of Active Minds.
  • Active Minds Mental Health Conference Planning & Participation
    • Helping plan and lead parts of the Active Minds Mental Health Conference

Eligibility and requirements for serving on the SAC

  • All SAC members must maintain registered student status with a campus.
  • If an SAC member takes time off from classes, they must remain in the campus system to remain on the SAC.  If a SAC member takes more than one semester of leave from school, they will be asked to step down and re-apply for the SAC the next term that they are registered (SAC members can stay on the SAC for up to one semester while taking leave from school).
  • All SAC members must be members of an Active Minds chapter or a representative of one of our campus-based partner organizations, while serving their terms; if an SAC member transfers schools half-way through an academic year, they can serve out the remaining SAC term but will no longer be eligible for SAC membership after that unless they join or start a chapter at their new school. 
  • Members who graduate from their high school, college, or university in the course of their term may serve the remainder of the academic year as a member of the SAC but will not be eligible to re-apply for their position until they have completed at least two semesters at another school or towards another degree.

  • Opportunities to be nominated for national awards, participate in conferences and be highlighted by national media outlets interested in Active Minds and our students
  • Supported visits to Washington, DC and the national conference (in-person) 

Unfortunately, you will need to be enrolled in a college or university in order to be eligible to apply for the SAC.
